Article in August 21, 2013 OMH tells us about an interesting program supported by NMC of Omaha as a way to develop and train tech’s for future employment. They have put together a plan to provide a stipend for tools, books and tuition in exchange for a contract to work for 2 years after graduation. In an industry with an ongoing shortage of skilled workers, this is their answer for providing for future diesel technicians. Students who may not choose to attend a 4 year college have been able to complete this program, find employment, and in some cases, decide to complete a bachelor’s degree from a university with a tuition reimbursement program that is in place. This feels like a win-win for employer and student/employee!
